MS-700 received a major update this month, with changes across multiple objective domains. Let’s jump straight in to what those changes are.

Topics added to the exam

  • Multitenant organizations (MTO)
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot meetings settings
  • Configure and manage Teams webinars and Teams Town halls
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI experiences in Teams
  • Troubleshoot issues with joining meetings and accessing features in meetings

Topics removed from the exam

  • Network architecture for Teams, including Microsoft eCDN
  • Enhanced encryption policies
  • Loop experiences in Teams
  • Configure and manage conference bridges and audio conferencing policies
  • Manage immersive experiences in meetings
  • Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) requirements, including Calling Plan, Direct Routing, Operator Connect, and Teams Phone Mobile
  • Device requirements, including Teams Rooms on Windows and Teams Rooms on Android
  • Emergency addresses
  • Resource accounts in the Microsoft Teams admin center
  • Reporting labels

Here’s where I get to give my usual disclaimer – just because something has been removed from the exam description, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t be referenced somewhere in the exam. I view it as the audience profile section tends to give some insight into the overall breadth of additional skills, knowledge and exposure the exam candidate should have, with some previously singled out topics basically becoming core skills any candidate should have without it needing to be specified.

This time round though, it appears that a significant portion of the removed topics are ones that are included in MS-721, and are a better fit there. Any of you who have been through Microsoft’s official curriculum for these two courses has no doubt noticed the amount of overlap in the content, so these are changes I’m fully supportive of. Another change in this exam is the consolidation of VDI from a section to a single objective. For this post, I’ve just consolidated the previous links into that one topic.

If you are already spending quite a bit of time in Teams administration, this is probably going to be a pretty easy exam for you, provided you are comfortable with other services that Teams integrates. The things that are potentially more important for you to focus on are the Entra ID related questions, including Access Reviews and group management for example, that may be the responsibility of an identity team in some organisations. Purview exposure is also needed, with DLP and Insider Risk included, amongst others. Make sure you are focusing on the Teams features you aren’t using yet, as any of the policies and settings you are already exposed to should be straight forward in the exam.

If you are more of a Microsoft 365 generalist and understand the external collaboration requirements, as well as the integration with other Microsoft 365 services, the important things to focus include understanding settings versus policies, as well as making sure you understand the different calling components, including queues, call analytics etc

What about PowerShell? There are some PowerShell questions in this exam, but not enough to cause any real issues if you are admin center leaning rather than scripting, but you should probably make sure you are somewhat comfortable with things that can be scripted that can’t be performed in a portal. You definitely don’t need to be PowerShell expert, but understanding syntax basics will go a long way. Access to Microsoft Learn during the exam also means you don’t have to focus as much on trying to memorise PowerShell cmdlets.
