Preparing for the MS-700 Managing Microsoft Teams Exam (January 2021 Update)

The exam objectives for MS-700 have just been updated, just in time for some training events I’ve got coming up. If you’ve already been preparing for the exam, the changes are minimal, and cover networks and locations, reporting labels, emergency addresses and deploying Teams inside of a Windows Virtual Desktop environment.

If you are already spending quite a bit of time in Teams administration, this is probably going to be a pretty easy exam for you. The things that are potentially more important for you to focus on are the Azure Active Directory related questions, including Access Reviews, group management for example, that may be the responsibility of an identity team in some organisations. Make sure you are focusing on the Teams features you aren’t using yet, as any of the policies and settings you are already exposed to should be straight forward in the exam.

If you are more of a Microsoft 365 generalist and understand the external collaboration requirements, as well as the integration with other Microsoft 365 services, the important things to focus include understanding settings versus policies, as well as making sure you understand the different calling components, including queues, call analytics etc

What about PowerShell? There are some PowerShell questions in this exam, but not enough to cause any real issues if you are admin center leaning rather than scripting, but you should probably make sure you are somewhat comfortable with things that can be scripted that can’t be performed in a portal.
